About Hugo Metcalfe
Founder of InMind:Insight
Background and Career Journey
I have always been a psychologist first and foremost. I studied Psychology at school, college, undergraduate and postgraduate level, exploring Forensic, Clinical and Occupational Psychology, and later Psychotherapy. I was, and still am, fascinated by people, in particular what gets in the way of their happiness and wellbeing and what supports it.
This interest led me into mental health services across the UK where I worked for many years in both public and private settings. During this time, I trained in a range of therapeutic approaches and models, developing the integrative and contemporary style that shapes my work today.
After leaving the NHS, I began focusing on how to translate psychological knowledge into something more practical and accessible. I wanted to help individuals understand themselves more clearly and support organisations to create healthier cultures. This led to building a career in facilitation, keynote speaking, leadership development and wellbeing consultancy.
Keynotes & Interactive Talks
Over the last seven years I have delivered keynotes and interactive talks to more than fifty thousand people in organisations around the world.
My clients have included Amazon, Bentley, the British Army, the Home Office, the Foreign Office, the Crown Prosecution Service and the European Commission, as well as universities, schools and a wide range of public and private sector teams.
I have also spoken at international wellbeing conferences and events focused on leadership, communication and culture.
In 2024 I published my first book on workplace culture and how to consciously construct environments that encourage communication, strengthen relationships and support connection.
1:1 Personal Therapy and Work Outside of Therapy
Alongside this work, I continue to do what I value most. I offer 1:1 personal therapy and couples therapy as a Contemporary Psychotherapist, supporting people to explore their experiences, understand their patterns and move towards the life they want to live.
Outside of my clinical and organisational work, I am also an international expedition leader and record breaking adventurer. Spending time in remote and challenging environments has taught me a great deal about resilience, purpose, joy and what we learn about ourselves when we step outside our comfort zone. These experiences have enriched me personally and they naturally enrich my clinical work and the stories and insights I share in keynotes and workshops.
InMind:Insight brings all of this together. It allows me to draw on clinical expertise, organisational knowledge and real world experience to support individuals, teams and organisations in a way that is practical, evidence-led and focused on genuine change.
Culture by Design is about shifting focus from solely organisational outcomes and performance, towards organisational culture and wellbeing. It bridges the gap between two key organisational goals: (a) the drive for improving performance, outcomes and staff retention, and (b) strategies to encourage employee wellbeing, motivation and engagement within the workplace.
Whether you are an HR director, People Manager, C-Suite Team member or Wellbeing and Culture Lead, this book is relevant to Leaders in organisations of any size. If you are interested in what works when it comes to improving staff wellbeing, how to go about the process of culture change or who makes the tea and why it matters, then this book is for you.
